Fire and Rescue

Last Tuesday was our last Board meeting until September 15th. It was packed with important business, but maybe the most important was the adoption of some major reforms to our county's Fire and Rescue system. Volunteers and career firefighters came together and worked out a system that will honor everyone's service and provide first-rate protection to the citizens of Prince William County.

Once the “foreclosure capital” of the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of the hardest hit localities in the Metropolitan Washington region, Prince William County, Virginia, located roughly 25 miles south and west of the nation’s capital, has turned around.

Comprehensive Plan Town Hall Thursday Night

The BOCS will be hosting a series of Town Hall Meetings across Prince William County to solicit public input on update of the Land Use and Transportation chapters of the Comprehensive Plan. Update on Asphalt Plants

I have requested Finley Asphalt and Sealing Company to withdraw its application to build an asphalt facility on Hornbaker Road. I have discussed this with Erick Finley and he indicated that he understood the community questions raised about the location of the facility. He is seriously considering my request and stressed that his family's company has been a part of this community for 40 years, and that your opinion of his company is important to him.

PWC Tea Party Announced for April 15

Most Americans have to work until today (Monday April 13th) just to make enough money to shoulder the burden of the federal government.

On April 15th, across the country, thousands, and hopefully millions, of Americans will be particpating in "Tea Party" rallies. Several Prince William County residents are putting together a rally on the grounds of the McCoart Administration Center from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. this Wednesday April 15th. You can RSVP here.

Violent Crime Rate Plunges 36.8% in Prince William County

In the past two years, violent crime reports have declined by 36.8% in Prince William County, Virginia. According to the Year-End Statistics report released today by Prince William County Police Department violent crime plunged 21.8% in 2008 compared to 2007 numbers. This follows a 19.3% between the 2007 and 2006 numbers. The crimes defined as “Part I Violent Crimes,” includes Murder, Rape, Aggravated Assault, and Robbery. The steep decline this year was driven by a 36.5% drop in aggravated assault and an 8.8% drop in robberies.

Is Prince William County Shovel Ready?

Friday night I will be speaking at the Prince William Committe of 100 March Forum. The title of the program will be "The Stimulus Package: Is Prince William County Shovel Ready?"

The program starts at 7:30 p.m. and is held at Four Points by Sheraton (10800 Vandoor Ln. Manassas, VA). There is no cost to attend and you do not have to RSVP.

Prince William County homeowners, at ground zero of the local foreclosure crisis, would receive the biggest reduction in property tax bills in the Washington suburbs under a measure approved yesterday.
